Salvatore Messina

Mr. Messina is Grand Officer of the Order of Merit of the Republic of Italy (Grande Ufficiale dell’Ordine al Merito della Repubblica Italiana) and a lawyer.

In 1969, he graduated with honors in Law at the University of Catania. In 1971 Mr. Messina began his professional career at the Bank of Italy where he carried out different and diversified functions. In July 2004, he was promoted to Director of the Milan branch. During that time, Mr. Messina was a member and coordinator of several internal teams and represented the Bank of Italy at various conferences and seminars for both public and private sector entities. He left the Bank of Italy on 2011. From April 2012 to June 2014, Mr. Messina represented Banca Esperia S.p.A. as an independent director and was member of the Supervisory Board (Organismo di Vigilanza) of Banca Monte dei Paschi di Siena (from May 2012 to April 2018) and of various companies associated with the Group. From 1st October 2015 to 28th June 2020 he has been Chairman of the Board of Directors of Diners Club Italia S.r.l.. Since January 14, 2013 he is Chairman of the board of Directors of Banca Farmafactoring and since July 10, 2018 he is a member of the Board of Director of the Italian Banking Association (hereinafter “ABI”). He is currently a member of the Supervisory Body (pursuant to the legislative decree no.231/2001) of Fineco Bank.

Since 2011, he is professor of Public Law and Economic European Law at the School of Banking, Financial and Insurance Sciences of Sacro Cuore Catholic University in Milan. Since May 2020, he is a member of the Steering Committee of the graduate degree Course in Internationalization of trade relations of the Department of Political and Social Sciences of the University of Catania.
